RotorSport Gyroplanes: Frequently asked Questions
Q. Where can I have a trial lesson? See our list of current instructors. Q. What will it cost to train? This is a bit of an unknown as aptitude and ability is a large factor. The average time is 45 hrs. You need a minimum of 40 hours if starting from scratch. Contact an instructor for more details. Q. What after-sales care is there? The aircraft carries a full 6-month parts and labour guarantee. We have trained service engineers throughout the country and carry an extensive spares stock. Our website contains owners’ pages which contain all manuals, service bulletins etc. When you become an owner you will be given access to the relevant page. Q. What about service and maintenance? The aircraft requires a service at 25hrs, then every 100hrs thereafter. You will also need an annual Permit renewal, inspection and flight test. We have service and repair facilities in Shropshire. For your nearest engineer , click here. Q. Are there any ‘lifed’ parts. Yes, one, the main rotor bearing, at 1000hrs. Q. But aren’t gyroplanes dangerous? There are two basic statistics - the older generation non-section T compliant gyroplanes, and the new factory built section T compliant gyroplanes. This new breed of gyroplane is proving robust and safe, having already flown 18,000hrs in the UK alone during the first 5 years of service. This is more than half of the total hours flown by amateur built gyroplanes in the last 20 years. Q. How do I buy one? Simply decide on model, colour and specifications and call or email us to discuss your order.
Q. What else do I need? Transport of the aircraft from RSUK to your location or you can pick it up or fly it away provided you have a permit to fly and a Gyroplane Pilot’s licence, PPL(G). A radio licence for the aircraft - we can arrange this for you. Your registration letters (£60 for the next in sequence. Add another £160 for the letters of your choice at current CAA charges) Gyroplane instruction – see instructor list. Flight clothing – we have an extensive range of personal and aircraft accessories Q. Why should I buy your Gyro? We carried out all the design, test and development work to turn the aircraft into a UK Section T compliant aircraft, and obtain approval – so know the aircraft inside and out. Our rotor is an aluminium extrusion and can be flown in any weather. There are no special setups to do, just bolt together and fly. Our pre-rotator is pneumatically engaged, giving up to 80 to 90% of rotor flight speed before commencing take off. This is significantly better that any other factory built gyro and gives a very short take off. Our list of options is extensive. The MTOW is 500kg which gives about 250kg of legal payload. This payload exceeds anything found on most microlights or gyros. We do everything for you once the process starts. We deal with the permit to fly, CAA inspection, flight test etc. The aircraft is delivered to you fitted out and kitted out ready to fly once the permit is issued. When we need you to do anything we will prompt you. You receive a complete customer folder containing all relevant paperwork, manuals etc and even logbooks.
